How to Prepare Yourself for Wisdom Tooth Removal?

“You need to get your wisdom tooth removed.”

This is a dreaded sentence that no one likes to hear coming from their dentist’s mouth. However, sometimes wisdom tooth removal becomes essential and must be done to ensure comfort and good oral health. So, if you are scared about your upcoming wisdom tooth removal at Orange Park, keep reading ahead as we help you prepare for your surgery.

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last teeth to erupt in the oral cavity. They are large back teeth and usually start erupting by the age of 18. However, in some situations, there may not be enough space in the mouth for these teeth to erupt correctly.

In such cases, they may come out at unusual angles or become embedded in the bone. They may get infected or get involved in some other dental pathology that eventually mandates their removal.

If your oral surgeon in Orange Park has suggested you go for wisdom tooth removal, it must be because of these reasons. So, now that you know why your wisdom tooth is getting removed; let’s start preparing you for it.

Talk to your doctor

If you have any doubts or any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your dentist. We will ensure all your questions and doubts are answered so that you are comfortable and relaxed.

In addition, if you are feeling anxious or nervous, you must let your doctor know. We will take additional steps and discuss sedation protocols with you to ensure you have a comfortable wisdom tooth removal at Orange Park.

Ask someone to accompany you

The effects of anesthesia may linger on, and driving is not advised after wisdom tooth removal. Ask a family member or a friend to accompany you during your surgery. Having a familiar face with you will also help you deal with your surgery in a calmer manner.

Remember why

Keep in mind that your dentist’s job is to ensure you are pain-free, and although wisdom tooth removal has a bad reputation, it is not like that in reality. The entire process happens under anesthesia. You won’t be able to feel any pain during the process, just some pressure. Later, painkillers will be prescribed to help you overcome any post-operative pain.

Clothes and food

It is advised that you wear loose and airy clothes on the day of your dental oral surgery. Make sure the sleeves are not tight and can be rolled up in case you are opting for sedation, or we need to administer some medications.

Eat well before the surgery and have a gap of at least 4 hours before the last meal and your surgery.

No smoking or alcohol

Smoking or drinking alcohol on the day of surgery can interfere with the effects of anesthesia and has a negative impact on healing. Therefore, it is best to avoid smoking and drinking a day before and a few days after tooth removal.
